Kano Court Remands Woman for Cutting Boyfriend's Genitals

Maimunatu was brought before Justice Sadiya Usman of Court No. 40 in Kano on charges of causing grievous bodily harm and attempted murder. During the court proceedings, prosecution counsel Barrister H.

A. Sani Buhari sought permission to read the charge sheet, to which Maimunatu admitted to causing bodily harm but denied or did not respond to the attempted murder charge, as the court lacks jurisdiction over that offense.

The prosecutor requested a date for the continuation of the trial, which was set for September 9, 2026. Justice Usman ordered Maimunatu to be remanded in prison custody until the next hearing.

Maimunatu, a native of Maigatari LGA in Jigawa State, was arrested on July 27, 2026, after allegedly attacking her boyfriend at Durbar Hotel in Kano. She reportedly cut his genitals with a sharp knife after discovering he planned to marry another woman.

The victim was taken to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital for emergency treatment, and police recovered the weapon at the scene.
