Ganduje Clarifies Emirship Status Amid Legal Proceedings

Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the former governor of Kano State, addressed reports suggesting an endorsement of Muhammadu Sanusi II for the Emirship of Kano.

He clarified that the Supreme Court and Governor Yusuf hold the final authority on the matter, which remains sub judice. Ganduje described the reports as misinterpretations and stressed the importance of respecting the ongoing legal proceedings.

He noted that the Court of Appeal had previously directed parties to maintain the status quo pending the Supreme Court's final judgment, expected in April next year. Ganduje emphasized that the matter is entirely judicial and urged all parties to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could be seen as contempt of court.

He reiterated that the current Emir is Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, while Sanusi, the 14th Emir, remains in a legal limbo pending the court's decision.
