Kano Elder Warns Ganduje on Sanusi Recognition Issues

A Kano elder has issued a caution to former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje concerning his recognition of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as Emir of Kano. The elder, identified as Kurawa, criticized Ganduje's earlier contradictory comments and questioned his sincerity regarding the emirship tussle.

Ganduje had previously recognized Sanusi, but Kurawa noted that Ganduje was absent during the coronation of Aminu Ado Bayero, the current Emir of Kano. Ganduje's acknowledgment of Sanusi was described as a matter of courtesy and protocol, not to be misconstrued.

The Supreme Court is expected to deliver a final verdict on the emirship dispute, which has seen Sanusi and Bayero as key figures. Kurawa warned that Ganduje's comments could potentially affect the court's judgment.

The legal battle stems from a 2019 law that amended the state's chieftaincy law, which Ganduje had supported, leading to the removal of Sanusi as Emir.
