Ganduje Clarifies Sanusi's Emirship Status Amid Court Case

Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the former governor of Kano State, addressed reports regarding the emirship of Muhammadu Sanusi II, stating that the Supreme Court and current Governor Yusuf will ultimately determine Sanusi's fate.

Ganduje described the reports as misinterpretations of his remarks made during a public gathering, clarifying that he merely expressed respect for the traditional title and did not endorse Sanusi's claim to the emirship. He emphasized that the emirship tussle remains sub judice, cautioning the public against making comments that could be seen as contempt of court.

Ganduje recalled that a court of appeal had previously directed parties to maintain the status quo pending the final determination of the case, which recognizes Aminu Ado Bayero as the 15th emir of Kano and Sanusi as the 14th emir. He expressed regret that the issue had been unnecessarily amplified by sections of the media and urged all parties to exercise restraint while awaiting the Supreme Court's judgment, expected to be delivered in April next year.
