Kano Governor Abba Yusuf Nominates Murtala Garo as Deputy

Abba Yusuf, the Governor of Kano State, has officially nominated Murtala Garo to fill the position of Deputy Governor, which became vacant after Abdussalam Gwarzo's resignation on March 27, 2026. This nomination was announced late Tuesday night by Mustapha Muhammad, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, in a statement.

The nomination adheres to Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the governor to nominate a deputy governor when a vacancy arises. Governor Yusuf has requested the Kano State House of Assembly to grant the necessary approval for Garo's nomination, following extensive consultations with key stakeholders.

The process is now set to move forward as the Assembly screens and confirms the new deputy governor.
