Kano Governor Orders Resignation of Political Appointees

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has issued a directive requiring all political appointees who plan to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign from their positions by March 31, 2026. This order is part of efforts to comply with Nigeria's Electoral Act, specifically Section 88(1), which aims to prevent the abuse of office and ensure a level playing field for electoral aspirants.

The instruction was communicated through a circular signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ibrahim, and shared by the governor's spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa. The governor's call for public office holders to step down aligns with similar measures taken at the federal level, where President Bola Tinubu also required resignations ahead of the party primaries.

The initiative is designed to uphold public trust in the political process and ensure adherence to electoral laws.
