Kano Government Denies Allegations of Killings at Ceremony

The Kano State government has officially dismissed allegations regarding the killing of five individuals during the swearing-in ceremony for the new Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo. Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the state's Commissioner for Internal Affairs, issued a statement on Wednesday, describing the reports linked to Amnesty International as false, misleading, and politically motivated.

The government expressed shock over the allegations, asserting that no official reports of killings had been received from security agencies. The event was held in Kano, and the government consulted relevant security authorities, which found no evidence of deaths connected to the ceremony.

The statement accused the reports of being designed to damage the image of the administration led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. The government criticized Amnesty International for publishing claims without proper verification and reiterated its commitment to addressing youth violence through ongoing intervention programs, including the Safe Corridor Kano model, which aims to rehabilitate and reintegrate repentant youth involved in criminal activities.
