Kano govt denies N6.5bn diversion allegation, claims sponsored smear campaign

The Kano government has refuted allegations of diverting N6.5 billion from the state treasury, labeling the claims as a sponsored smear campaign by the opposition to undermine the administration of Governor Abba Yusuf. The Director-General of Protocol at the Kano Government House, Abdullahi Rogo, dismissed the accusations as politically motivated fiction aimed at tarnishing the government's image.

The Director-General of Media and Publicity, Sanusi Tofa, emphasized that the allegations were baseless and part of a coordinated online campaign to malign key officials. Tofa highlighted that the government operates within budgetary approvals and accused the opposition of resorting to blackmail and propaganda to stay relevant ahead of the 2027 elections.

The government also drew comparisons to the previous administration, pointing out allegations of corruption and land grabbing involving the former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
