Kano Govt Inaugurates Voter Registration Committee, Targets 10m Voters

The Kano State Government has established a Voter Registration Civic Awareness Committee to encourage residents to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, directed the committee to ensure that at least 10 million eligible voters in the state are registered.

The committee, which includes technocrats, Islamic scholars, broadcasters, business leaders, journalists, and opposition party representatives, aims to secure an additional five million registered voters by the end of the registration period. The committee chairman, Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, expressed readiness to fulfill the mandate and mobilize residents across the state.

The government will provide necessary support for the committee's efforts, emphasizing the importance of intensifying sensitization campaigns in all 44 local government areas of the state.
