Kano State Dismisses Counsel Over Forgery Allegations

The Kano State Government has officially dismissed Mustapha Nura Muhammad, a state counsel in the Ministry of Justice, due to allegations of forgery and professional misconduct. The allegations include forging the name and signature of a senior legal officer to issue unauthorized legal advice in a sensitive criminal matter.

This misconduct is connected to the case of the Commission of Police v. Umar Abubakar, which is currently pending in the Chief Magistrate Court.

The Kano State Civil Service Commission approved the dismissal on April 1, following recommendations from a senior staff disciplinary committee. The Attorney General of Kano State, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maud, stated that the government does not tolerate actions that could damage public confidence in the justice system.

The Ministry of Justice has initiated steps to report the matter to the legal practitioners' disciplinary committee for further sanctions and potential criminal prosecution against the dismissed counsel.
