Kano Judiciary Demotes Judges and Registrars for Misconduct

The Kano State Judiciary has taken significant disciplinary actions against two judges and several registrars due to misconduct. Mallam Salisu Buhari Mandawari, a judge at the Upper Shari Court in Rogo, was found guilty of demanding a bribe and failing to properly record court proceedings.

As a result, he has been demoted by two grade levels and will have his salary reduced to half for a period of three years. Similarly, Judge Umar Sunusi Danbaba of the Upper Shari Court in Filin Hockei was also found guilty of improper handling of funds and failing to record proceedings correctly, leading to the same disciplinary measures.

Additionally, registrars Abdulbari Ado and Umar Abdulhamid were demoted for demanding bribes. The spokesman for the Kano State Judiciary, Baba Jibo Ibrahim, emphasized that these measures serve as a deterrent against similar misconduct within the judiciary.

The commission has also recommended that the Judiciary Public Complaint Committee investigate further misconduct.
