Kano Government Clashes with Buba Galadima Over Political Allegations

The Kano State Government has refuted claims made by elder statesman Buba Galadima that the current governor cannot secure re-election in 2027 without the backing of former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the State's Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, dismissed Galadima's assertion as misleading, emphasizing that Kano's political landscape is defined by popular legitimacy and not godfatherism.

Waiya highlighted the independent-mindedness of Kano's electorate, citing instances such as Ibrahim Shekarau's rise in 2003 and Kwankwaso's political comeback in 2011 as evidence of voters rewarding performance. The Commissioner expressed disappointment in Galadima's remarks, particularly considering his appointment as the Chairman of the Governing Council of Kano State Polytechnic by Governor Yusuf.

Waiya also defended Governor Yusuf's recent defection to the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), attributing it to internal crises and prolonged legal battles. He emphasized that political mentorship does not equate to permanent political dependence, underscoring that Kano's leadership culture is built on service delivery rather than deference.
