Kano Hisbah to Introduce Mental Health Tests for Couples Before Marriage to Curb Domestic Violence

Kano State Hisbah Board plans to introduce mandatory mental health tests for couples before marriage to address rising cases of domestic violence and divorce. Deputy Hisbah Mujahideen Aminudeen highlighted the link between marital crises and mental health challenges, emphasizing the importance of mental health stability for a successful union.

The initiative aims to ensure partners are mentally prepared to live together without causing harm. The policy will also apply to divorcees whose marriages were state-sponsored, with tests covering aspects like genotype and sexually transmitted diseases.

By focusing on mental health, Hisbah aims to promote healthier relationships and reduce instances of marital discord in Kano State.
