Kano Mass Wedding Program Welcomes Muslims and Christians

The Kano State Hisbah Board, represented by Deputy Commandant Mujahideen Aminuddeen, announced on Wednesday that its mass wedding program is open to both Muslims and Christians, dismissing the notion that it is exclusive to Islam. The program, known as Auren Gata, aims to assist widows, divorcees, and singles who cannot afford marriage costs.

Three Christian couples participated in the last mass wedding held in October 2023. The initiative is designed to strengthen families, reduce immorality, and support vulnerable members of society.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has prioritized orphans and underprivileged families in the selection process. The Hisbah Board plans to allocate N1.5 billion for the next mass wedding, which will cater to 1,500 couples and 5,000 people.

Each groom will receive N100,000 as dowry, while brides will receive N100,000 for business empowerment. Additionally, beneficiaries will receive essential items and undergo health screenings to ensure compatibility for marriage.
