Kano State Allocates N1.5bn for Mass Marriage Program

Kano State has earmarked N1.5 billion for a mass marriage program targeting 1,500 couples, as announced by Aminu Daurawa, the Command General of the Hisbah Board, during a press conference. The initiative aims to reduce social vices and support indigent couples who struggle with marriage expenses.

Each couple will benefit from N1 million, which will be used to purchase essential items such as beds, mattresses, bedsheets, pillows, cupboards, and food items. Additionally, each groom will receive N100,000 to empower them in small-scale businesses.

This program fulfills a promise made by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the people of Kano State. The Hisbah Board will conduct the marriage ceremonies and has issued guidelines to disallow divorce without their involvement.

Furthermore, the Hisbah Chief advises that couples must confirm their genotypes to prevent the birth of children with sickle cell disease.
