INEC Announces 2026 Governorship Election Schedule for Kano, Rivers, Ekiti, Osun, and FCT

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed the dates for the 2026 governorship elections in Kano, Rivers, Ekiti, Osun, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The elections in Osun State are set for Saturday, June 20, and Saturday, August 8, 2026.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, emphasized the critical nature of the 2026 electoral year, requiring enhanced security coordination and intelligence gathering for peaceful and credible elections. The preparations include the delivery of non-sensitive materials, training of electoral and security personnel, and the configuration of a biometric voter accreditation system.

A mock accreditation exercise is scheduled for Saturday, February 7, 2026. INEC is also intensifying preparations for the 2027 general elections, with stakeholder meetings and inter-agency collaboration being key focus areas.
