Kano Announces Three-Month Power Outage for Upgrades

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has announced a three-month scheduled power outage affecting its franchise area due to upgrades being conducted by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). The outages will involve daily interruptions of eight hours along two major transmission lines: the Mando Kumbotso 330kV line and the Shiroro Mando 330kV line.

The Mando Kumbotso line will experience outages from January 17 to April 17, 2026, while the Shiroro Mando line will be affected from January 17 to February 17, 2026. The outages are scheduled to occur on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

KEDCO explained that these interruptions are necessary for the installation of optic ground wire as part of the Nigeria Electricity Transmission Project upgrade, aimed at strengthening transmission infrastructure and improving service delivery in the long term. The company assured customers that alternative supply arrangements would be in place to minimize disruptions and appealed for patience during this period.
