TCN Maintenance Causes Power Disruption in Niger, Borno

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced maintenance operations that will disrupt power supply in parts of Niger and Borno states. Ndidi Mbah, TCN's General Manager of Public Affairs, stated that the maintenance involves the installation of transformer explosion fire prevention technology at the 150MVA 330/132/33kV transformer TR1 at the transmission substation in Niger State.

As a result, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) will be unable to supply electricity to customers in affected communities, including New Bussa, Kaiama, Wawa, and Agwara, for two days. Additionally, maintenance in Gomb, Borno State, will enable crews to replace broken insulators on 10 towers along the transmission line route.

This exercise is part of a larger project intended to connect the Bauchi 330kV transmission substation to the national grid, with completion expected by June 2025. During this period, the Gomb Biu transmission substation will continue to receive power from the Dadin Kowa hydro power plant and the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP).
