Benin Region to Face 10-Hour Daily Power Outages

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that the Benin region will experience daily power outages lasting 10 hours, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, starting February 27, 2026, and continuing until March 31, 2026. This outage is necessary to allow contractors to carry out essential restraining work on the 330kV transmission line connecting the Ihovbor power plant.
TCN's General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, stated that the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) will be unable to supply electricity to customers in the Uniben, Oluku, Egba, and Ihovbor areas during this period. However, power supply will be restored daily at 6:00 PM until 8:00 AM the following day.
TCN emphasized that the temporary power interruptions are required for safety reasons as the transmission line crosses major highways along the Benin-Ajaokuta axis. The company has apologized for the inconvenience and assured that full bulk power supply will be restored to the distribution company upon project completion.
