Kanu Seeks WMA Intervention Over Health Crisis in DSS Custody

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), petitioned the World Medical Association (WMA) over his deteriorating health conditions in DSS custody. Kanu highlighted inadequate medical care during his four-year detention without trial by the Department of State Services (DSS).

In a letter dated October 3, 2025, Kanu's international counsel, Bruce Fein, requested WMA's intervention to ensure Kanu receives proper medical attention. Kanu also sought a review of his medical records and protection for independent medical providers working with him.

The appeal aimed to address the alleged irregularities in Kanu's medical treatment while in custody.
