Katsina Governor Launches $1M Climate-Resilience Project

On Thursday, Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda launched a $1 million climate-resilience project titled “Protecting Food Security Against Recurring Floods and Drought.” This 12-month initiative aims to safeguard vulnerable farming communities from the impacts of floods, drought, soil degradation, and post-harvest losses. The project will be implemented in Bindawa, Bakori, and Kafur Local Government Areas by Mercy Corps Nigeria, in collaboration with the Katsina State Development Management Board and the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.

Radda emphasized the urgent need to address climate change, which poses significant threats to the agricultural economy of Katsina, an agrarian state. He directed relevant ministries to coordinate efforts and support the project, with the goal of extending similar interventions across all local governments in the state.

Dr Mustapha Shehu, Executive Secretary of KTDMB, stated that the project is based on vulnerabilities identified through data assessments, while Mercy Corps Nigeria's Programme Manager, Philip Ikita, highlighted a “prevention-first” approach to protect agricultural assets.
