Katsina Opens New Diphtheria Treatment Centre

Katsina Opens New Diphtheria Treatment Centre

The Katsina State Government has opened a new diphtheria isolation and treatment centre located at the General Amadi Rimi Specialist Orthopaedic Hospital in Katsina. This facility was inaugurated by the State Commissioner for Health, Musa Adamu Funtua, on behalf of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.

The new centre aims to ease the pressure on the Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina (FTHK), which has reached full capacity in its existing diphtheria isolation facility. Dr Shaima’u Abba Kabir, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Primary Health Care Development Agency, noted that the limited bed capacity at FTHK has contributed to perceptions of overcrowding.

She emphasized that establishing additional centres would help address this issue. Dr Abba Kabir also urged residents to take advantage of available vaccination services and adhere to public health advice to curb the spread of diphtheria.

The new centre is expected to enhance coordination between state and federal health authorities in managing diphtheria cases and improve access to timely treatment for affected residents.
