Ex-Bandit Leader Affirms Katsina Peace Deal Amid Attacks

An ex-bandit leader stated that the peace deal in Katsina remains intact, attributing recent bandit attacks in Zamfara to infiltrators from Musawa. He lamented the withdrawal of support from authorities, which has diminished their capacity to respond to attacks.

Following a recent gun battle where several bandits were killed, others regrouped to launch a reprisal attack. The ex-bandit leader, who lost family members and livestock in the violence, vowed to return to banditry if the situation does not improve.

Musawa Lawan Ibrahim Ribeji, the chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), noted that the influx of bandits from Zamfara has become alarming and emphasized that the peace deal's effectiveness is in jeopardy as Wada became a target of attacks. Residents currently live in fear, necessitating stronger security interventions.
