ADC Petitions NJC and IHRC Over Member Persecution

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State has formally petitioned the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) regarding the alleged persecution of its members. During a press conference at the party's secretariat in Birnin Kebbi, ADC chairman Sufiyanu Bala highlighted the arrests and detentions of members, including Umar Abubakar Hussaina and Nasiru Garba Hashim, without substantial cases against them.

Hussaina has been detained since January 20, 2026, and was denied bail despite health concerns, while Hashim was arrested and transferred to Kebbi, where he has been held for two months. The Kebbi State government, through Chief Press Secretary Ahm Idri, has denied any allegations of persecution.

The ADC claims that the situation has created a crisis within the party, with internal factions led by Abdulrasak Abubakar and Sufiyanu Bala. The party is seeking intervention from the NJC and IHRC to address these issues.
