Kebbi Forum Urges Security Reforms After Deadly Attack

The Kebbi Develop Forum has called for an urgent overhaul of security measures in Kebbi State after a recent attack by suspected bandits resulted in the deaths of at least 33 individuals in the Arewa Local Government Area. This incident is noted as one of the deadliest in recent months, with the group highlighting the increasing violence linked to banditry affecting border communities in Kebbi.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the forum's chairman, Saidu Illo, urged authorities to adopt a coordinated and decentralized security approach to effectively tackle the growing insecurity. The group emphasized the need to strengthen local institutions, including traditional rulers and local government authorities, to support community-based security efforts.

Additionally, they raised concerns about threats reported in the Koko Bess and Ngaski Local Government Areas, warning that failure to act promptly could exacerbate tensions within the communities. The forum also called for stronger collaboration between the federal government and neighboring countries to curb cross-border criminal activities.
