Kebbi NUJ Defends Media Against Umar's Criticism

The Kebbi State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has responded to remarks made by former Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) leader Abdulwahe Umar, who suggested that the media has failed to adequately report the achievements of Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris. Umar's comments were made during an NLC retreat at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi, where he claimed that despite visible developments, the media did not sufficiently cover the state's projects.

In rebuttal, NUJ Correspondents Chapel Chairman Alhaji Kabiru Wurma described Umar's comments as misleading and unfair, asserting that the media has consistently reported on the government's policies and projects across various platforms. Wurma emphasized the cordial relationship between the media and the state government, noting that the coverage reflects tangible progress.

He also highlighted that the current NLC President Joe Ajaero acknowledged the positive media reports during a visit to Kebbi. Wurma called for Umar to retract his statement, stressing that in the digital era, media coverage is easily accessible for verification.
