Kwara Correspondents Chapel Cuts Ties with NUJ Council

The Correspondents Chapel in Kwara State has officially cut ties with the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) state council, effective immediately. This decision was reached during a congress held on March 1, 2025, at the chapel's secretariat.

Members described the move as a necessary measure to protect the integrity of the chapel's leadership. A communiqué, jointly signed by Chairman Biola Azeez and Secretary Mosunmola Ayobami, stated that the chapel would boycott press conferences and media-related activities organized by the state council until further notice.

The decision was influenced by the NUJ state council's failure to recognize the leadership of the Correspondents Chapel, which was elected on November 1, 2025. The communiqué also highlighted previous efforts to resolve ongoing issues, including interventions from the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor and other senior officials, which yielded no positive outcomes.

Additionally, the chapel inaugurated a new committee tasked with organizing regular engagements and events, including a press week scheduled for 2026.
