Kebbi State Sets Dates for Historic Argungu Fishing Festival in 2026

Kebbi State has scheduled the Argungu International Fishing Festival for February 11-14, 2026, as announced by Emir Argungu Alhaji Samaila Mera. The festival, with origins in a peace pact between Sokoto Caliphate and the Kanta Kingdom, holds historical significance and was later recognized by UNESCO.

The event, which promotes unity, was instrumental during Nigeria's civil war under General Yakubu Gowon's administration. The festival aims to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Argungu Kingdom, with comprehensive logistic plans in place for a successful and memorable event.
