Kenneth Okonkwo Criticizes Peter Obi's Defamation Suit

Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), publicly criticized Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), labeling him a “classless, non-charismatic politician.” This statement was made during an appearance on Channels Television, where Okonkwo responded to a defamation suit filed by Obi against him. Okonkwo asserted that Obi demonstrated a lack of understanding regarding defamation law, advising his lawyers to educate him.

He maintained that he had not defamed Obi, stating that his comments are verifiable and publicly available. Okonkwo argued that defamation suits are based on statements already made, not on intentions to speak.

He also supported Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation, who had previously remarked that Obi “lies like a fish drinks water,” questioning why Obi had not sued Keyamo for those comments. Okonkwo concluded that Obi's actions reflect poorly on his aspirations for the presidency.
