Kenya Reports First Ebola Death Linked to Congo Case

Kenya has confirmed its first Ebola case and death following the demise of a Kenyan national who had resided in the Democratic Republic of Congo for seven years. The patient fell ill approximately a month prior and received treatment at various hospitals in the Democratic Republic of Congo before traveling to Kenya.
Health Minister Aden Duale reported that the patient traveled by road to Kampala, Uganda, and then flew to Nairobi, where he underwent routine screening at the airport. After being admitted to Nairobi Hospital, he was transferred to an isolation facility.
The patient exhibited symptoms including fever, chills, and bleeding under the skin, leading doctors to suspect a viral hemorrhagic fever. Samples tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola.
The patient died at 11:30 pm on Monday, with burial planned for Tuesday following public health protocols. Health authorities are tracing 28 contacts and 27 passengers from the flight.
The outbreak is linked to the Bundibugyo species of Ebola, which currently lacks an approved vaccine or treatment.
