Keyamo Calls for Electoral Reform to Curb Money Influence

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of State, delivered a lecture titled "Leadership Recruitment in Nigeria: Challenges and the Path Forward" on Tuesday in Ondo State, marking the 70th birthday of Olusola Ok, a chieftain of the Progressive Congress. Keyamo highlighted the detrimental role of money in Nigeria's political system and proposed several reforms to enhance the electoral process.

He urged for the strengthening of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure it operates independently and is financially autonomous, free from external pressures. Keyamo suggested implementing limits on campaign spending and increasing transparency in campaign funding to create a more level playing field for candidates.

He emphasized that without addressing the influence of money, it would continue to dictate the flow of power in Nigeria. The event also featured tributes to Olusola Ok, who reflected on his 70 years of life and achievements, including his contributions to the legal profession and politics.
