Keyamo Implements Hybrid Payment System at Airports

Festus Keyamo, the Nigerian Minister of Aviation, has approved the introduction of a hybrid payment system for motorists entering airport access gates across the country. This decision was communicated by Tunde Moshood, the Minister's special adviser, following a meeting with senior personnel from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

The move comes after the suspension of a fully cashless access gate payment system, which was halted directly by President Bola Tinubu due to complaints regarding traffic congestion at airport entry points. The hybrid payment system will allow for both cash and card payments, resuming at the airport access gates effective Friday.

Motorists are encouraged to obtain the FAAN cashless card, while the electronic payment options, including Point of Sale (POS) terminals, will remain available. Keyamo emphasized the need to strengthen and optimize the cashless payment system, while efforts will continue to establish a fully automated electronic system at airport entry points nationwide.
