Keyamo Urges EgyptAir to Modernize Aircraft for Nigeria

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development in Nigeria, called on EgyptAir to modernize its fleet serving Nigerian routes by replacing ageing aircraft with newer-generation models. This request was made during a bilateral meeting with Sameh El-Hefny, Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation, at the El-Alamein International Airshow 2026.

Keyamo emphasized that fleet modernization is crucial for enhancing passenger experience, operational efficiency, and the airline's competitiveness. He highlighted the strategic importance of Nigeria-Egypt aviation relations and Nigeria's commitment to international partnerships that can improve connectivity and stimulate tourism and trade.

The discussions also included the need for closer collaboration between the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) and the League of Arab Civil Aviation (LACA) to promote partnerships among African and Arab states. Keyamo's request aligns with EgyptAir's ongoing fleet renewal efforts as the airline expands its capacity across the African market.

Nigeria's aviation market is also growing, with a reported 37.4% increase in scheduled airline capacity year-on-year in September 2026.
