NBBF Awaits FIBA Decision on Board Tenure and Legitimacy

The Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF), under the leadership of Engr Amadu Musa Kida, is currently facing scrutiny regarding the constitutionality and tenure of its board. This situation arises as FIBA, the world governing body for basketball, is set to decide on a petition filed by member federations challenging the board's legitimacy.

The contention revolves around whether Kida's board should exit office at the end of January or continue until October 2026, the stated termination date. During a recent board meeting in Lagos, Kida expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support in developing basketball in Nigeria.

The board reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring Nigeria's participation in the upcoming FIBA Women's World Cup qualifiers scheduled for March 11-17, 2026, in Lyon, France. Additionally, the board approved the 2026 NBBF budget, which encompasses national team programs and grassroots development initiatives.
