Nigerian Basketball Federation Clarifies Leadership Disputes and Tenure Amid Achievements Under Musa Kida's Leadership

The Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) has denied allegations of attempting to prolong Musa Kida's tenure beyond the stipulated statutory provisions. Following parallel electoral processes and leadership disputes, Sunday Adebayo, a stakeholder in the sports ecosystem, clarified that Kida's official tenure began on the inauguration date, not January 31, 2022.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development formally recognized the outcome of the Benin City congress, inaugurating the NBBF board on October 6, 2022. Despite challenges, Kida has committed to upholding the federation's constitution, limiting his tenure to two terms.

Under Kida's leadership from 2017 to 2025, the NBBF achieved significant milestones, including the D'Tigress women's national team winning five consecutive FIBA Afrobasket titles and making history at the Olympics. The NBBF aims to focus on achieving further success and unity within the basketball community.
