Stakeholders Demand New NBBF Board to Ensure Growth

Stakeholders have called on the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) to strictly follow constitutional procedures and form a new board to address ongoing controversies. Seven outgoing board members held a press conference in Abuja, emphasizing that the current board's tenure officially ends on January 31, 2026, and no extension has been approved.

They demanded the immediate activation of constitutional provisions to convene an electoral congress, which they described as essential for establishing a new inclusive board. Attendees included Col Sam Ahmadu, Prof Florence Adeyanju, and representatives from various regions.

The group highlighted serious governance concerns, including the absence of official bank account management and potential conflicts of interest related to kit sponsorship deals. They criticized the reliance on an emerging committee lacking constitutional power to replace the full board.

The stakeholders urged relevant authorities to convene a transparent electoral congress, warning that failure to adhere to constitutional procedures could further destabilize Nigerian basketball.
