NBBF Congress Appeals to FIBA to Halt Alleged Tenure Extension

The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Congress has urged the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) to intervene in response to an alleged tenure extension by the outgoing leadership led by President Musa Kida. The Congress, comprising two-thirds of NBBF members, raised concerns over the extension of the board's tenure beyond its stipulated term, which they argue violates the NBBF constitution.

The Congress petitioned FIBA to empower the Nigerian Sports Commission and the Nigeria Olympic Committee to organize an extraordinary congress for fresh elections without delay. The petition highlighted allegations of poor governance, failure to hold required congress meetings, and inactivity within the federation, leading to a breakdown in development programs.

The NBBF Congress emphasized that the current board's tenure expired on January 31, 2026, and called for immediate action to declare it over, sanction fresh elections by March 31, 2026, and restore constitutional order in Nigerian basketball.
