Father Demands Police Kill Son Arrested for Cultism

Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu recounted an incident from his time as a Divisional Police Officer in Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, where a retired soldier reacted to his university-student son's arrest for cultism by demanding the police kill him. Disu shared this story during the National Youth Leadership and Security Dialogue organized by the Nigeria Police Force at the Police Resource Centre in Jabi, Abuja, on Thursday.

The retired soldier insisted on the demand while waiting in Disu's office, stating he did not want his son at home. However, the following morning, the soldier returned with food for his son, demonstrating a shift from anger to concern for his son's welfare.

Disu reflected on the incident, noting the complexities of parental emotions and the importance of family responsibility in upbringing. He previously shared this story in a March 2025 reflection, highlighting that the young man later completed his education, married, and became a father.
