Akwa Ibom to Empower 110,000 Women in October Initiative

The Akwa Ibom State Government, led by Governor Umo Eno, announced a mass empowerment plan targeting 110,000 women across the state's 31 Local Government Areas, set to commence in October this year. This initiative, which will select at least 300 women from each ward, was unveiled during the launch of the Federal Government’s rural women empowerment initiative and the distribution of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders in Uyo on Thursday.

Governor Eno emphasized that women’s empowerment is crucial for social welfare and is a key component of his administration’s ARISE Agenda. He commended the Federal Government for its LPG distribution program, which aims to benefit 27,000 households, and noted that the state’s empowerment program complements the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Initiative.

Eno highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship and skills development in creating sustainable livelihoods and economic opportunities, stating that access to cleaner cooking gas would improve health outcomes and reduce energy costs for households.
