ACF Urges Nigerian Government to Adopt Wartime Strategy

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has called on the Nigerian government to implement a wartime strategy to address the worsening security situation in the country, particularly in the northern region. This appeal was made during the forum's 38th board of trustees meeting held on April 15.

The ACF noted a significant increase in violence, including coordinated attacks by Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province, which have resulted in numerous casualties among civilians and military personnel. Recent incidents during the Easter period included the deaths of at least 16 individuals, including five policemen, across several states such as Borno, Kaduna, Katsina, and Benue.

The ACF expressed deep concern over the humanitarian consequences, with hundreds of thousands displaced and livelihoods destroyed. They emphasized the need for a fundamental shift in government response to insecurity, recommending the suspension of non-essential projects to redirect resources towards enhancing security operations.

The forum warned that the ongoing violence poses a serious threat to national stability and unity.
