King Oyo's Body Returns to Uganda Amid Succession Dispute

The body of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's youngest reigning monarch, returned to Uganda on Friday after he died at the age of 34 while receiving treatment for an aggressive form of cancer. President Yoweri Museveni was present at Entebbe airport to receive the remains, which were transported to Kyegegwa and then to the royal palace in Fort Portal.

A nine-day mourning period has commenced, with public viewings at Karuziika Palace. King Oyo will be buried on 12 September, coinciding with the annual Empango ceremony he had hoped to celebrate.

His death has raised succession concerns, as he had no official wife, although it was claimed he fathered a son. This assertion has led to public disagreements among royal figures, with calls for private resolution among elders.

Uganda's parliament held a tribute session, and national flags will fly at half-mast for three days around the funeral.
