Wike Claims Kingibe Will Lose Senate Seat in 2027

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, declared that Senator Ireti Kingibe, a member of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), will not return to the Senate after the 2027 elections. During an inspection of road projects in Abuja, Wike criticized Kingibe for her remarks regarding the FCT Administration's borrowing practices, labeling her as "an illiterate" and asserting that she lacks the ability to serve the people of the FCT.

He emphasized that residents have already chosen to support President Tinubu and Philip Aduda, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Senate. Kingibe had previously questioned Wike's borrowing without National Assembly approval, citing a significant increase in the FCT's domestic debt from N88.51 billion in September 2023 to N389.88 billion by March 2026.

Wike defended the administration's borrowing strategy, arguing that the focus should be on the effective use of the funds rather than the act of borrowing itself.
