TUC Suspends Industrial Action Over King’s College Concession

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has instructed its affiliate unions to suspend the ongoing industrial action concerning the concession of King’s College, Lagos, following assurances from the Federal Government regarding the protection of workers' jobs. This directive was issued by TUC General Secretary Nuhu Toro after an emergency meeting with the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, in Abuja on Monday.

The industrial action arose from the Federal Government's decision to concession King’s College to the King’s College Old Boys’ Association (KCOBA) under a public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement. The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) and other education sector unions had previously directed workers in federal unity colleges nationwide to refrain from resuming academic activities, disrupting the scheduled 2026/2027 academic session.

After discussions with the minister, Toro stated that while the suspension of the industrial action was based on government assurances, it does not permanently resolve all issues raised. He welcomed the establishment of a committee to further examine relevant policy documents.
