KCOBA Calls for Probe into Student Protest Involvement

The King’s College Old Boys’ Association (KCOBA) has requested an investigation into the participation of King’s College Lagos students in recent protests organized by sections of the school’s Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) against the federal government's concession of the institution. KCOBA condemned the "weaponisation" of underage students in these protests, particularly their alleged chants against the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa.

The association expressed concerns regarding the welfare, dignity, and safety of the children involved, as well as the legal implications of recording and sharing their participation on social media. KCOBA's statement, signed by its leadership including Alhaji Lateef Femi Okunnu (SAN), Chief Philip Asiodu, Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, Dr. Leke Oshunniyi, and Etigwe Uwa (SAN), emphasized the difference between voicing dissent and encouraging children to publicly malign a public officer.

The association urged authorities to investigate the mobilization of students and whether it breached the Child’s Rights Act, which protects children's dignity and prohibits abuse.
