Armed Attack in Kogi: One Dead, Two Abducted

On June 6, 2026, armed hoodlums attacked a bar in Ijumu Local Government Area, Kogi State, resulting in the death of one person and the abduction of two individuals, identified as staff of the customs service. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants opened fire, injuring several others.

Following the attack, security forces responded to a distress call but the assailants fled into nearby forests. Kogi State Government, through a press statement by Kingsley Fanwo, confirmed the incident and emphasized ongoing operations to track down the perpetrators.

The statement urged residents to report any suspicious individuals or gunshot wounds to the police. ASP Saliu Oyiza of the Kogi State Police Command did not respond to calls for further information.

The state government is coordinating efforts with the Nigerian military, police, local vigilante services, and hunters to prevent further escalation of violence.
