Kogi State Allocates N1.8bn Yearly for Pensioners

Comrade Onu Edoka, the Special Adviser on Labour Matters to Kogi State Governor Alhaji Ahmed Ododo, announced that the Kogi State Government releases N150 million monthly to the Pension Commission, amounting to approximately N1.8 billion yearly for retirees. Speaking in Ogori Mangogo Local Government Council, Edoka praised the Ododo administration for prioritizing workers and pensioners, stating that delays in salary and pension payments have ended.

He mentioned ongoing discussions for a loan or bond facility to clear outstanding gratuities for pensioners. Edoka highlighted Kogi's early implementation of the national minimum wage and a two-year tax waiver on the increment.

He noted that local government workers receive full salary payments and various welfare packages have been activated. The government also donated three buses to labor unions to support their operations.

Edoka urged workers to remain vigilant regarding workplace security and announced plans for massive recruitment to strengthen the civil service amid rising pension bills.
