Kogi NGOs Call for Reforms in Marine Transport Sector After Tragic Boat Accident

Kogi NGOs Network (KONGONET) is urging the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) to implement long-term reforms in the marine transport sector to reduce boat accidents following a tragic incident in Ibaji Local Government Area, Kogi State, where 36 lives were lost. KONGONET Chairperson, Hamza Aliyu, emphasized the need for immediate relief for the victims' families and structural solutions to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The organization highlighted the historical recurrence of boat mishaps in Kogi State, stressing the importance of enhancing safety measures in riverine communities. They called for urgent humanitarian assistance and preventive actions to avert similar incidents.
