Kuje Chairman Advocates Free Birth Registration for Children

Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo, the chairman of Kuje Area Council, called on parents and guardians to register their children for free birth certificates during the launch of a campaign on Friday. This initiative, which is part of a collaboration with the National Population Commission (NPC) and supported by UNICEF, aims to ensure that every eligible child is captured in the national registration process.

Shekwolo emphasized the importance of birth registration for national planning, as it provides reliable population data that enables the government to make informed decisions regarding budget provisions and social services. Dr. Attah Idri, representing the FCT Women Affairs Secretariat, assured that the exercise would be completed free of charge and would facilitate the assignment of National Identification Numbers (NIN) to registered children, thereby capturing them in the national database.
