NPC Trains Ward Registrars to Enhance Birth Registration

The National Population Commission (NPC), in partnership with the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and UNICEF, held a two-day capacity-building training program for ward registrars in Kwara State. Dr.

Yahaya Isiaka Alada, the Federal Commissioner of NPC in Kwara State, described the initiative as a significant step towards decentralizing and harmonizing the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) system across Nigeria. He stated that this training signifies a shift from policy to practical implementation at the grassroots level.

Alada mentioned plans to expand the electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (eCRVS) system nationwide, aligning with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He also noted the establishment of additional registration centers across the 16 local government areas of Kwara State.

Ms. Latifah Aspitah Isah, the National Project Coordinator on Birth Registration for ALGON, stressed the importance of birth registration for legal identity and access to essential services, urging local government authorities to play a vital role in improving registration processes.
