Kwankwaso Supports NDC's Zoning of 2027 Presidency

On Saturday, former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso expressed his support for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) decision to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to the southern region of Nigeria. This decision aligns with the party's power-sharing arrangement and is intended to ensure fairness within the party.

Kwankwaso made this statement during the party's national convention in Abuja, addressing delegates and urging party stakeholders to support the decision. The resolution to zone the presidential ticket to the south was adopted during the convention, moved by Afam Victor Ogen, a lawmaker representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency in Anambra State.

NDC National Chairman Mose Cleopa stated that this zoning arrangement is part of a broader power-sharing formula aimed at balancing regional interests within the opposition coalition. The decision is expected to enhance the chances of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, a southern aspirant, ahead of the party's presidential primaries.

This development occurs amid ongoing political realignments in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
